About Temet Nosce Counseling

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” ~ Laozi

Temet Nosce is Latin for “know yourself”. Counseling is about becoming a student of yourself and understanding where you have come from in order to know where you want to go. Many people find themselves mired in the past which keeps them from enjoying the present. Often times we learn maladaptive coping skills and unhealthy ways of trying to get needs met. This may manifest as an addiction of some sort or as codependency in relationships. Trying to hold on to outdated beliefs can also produce anger, depression and anxiety. The first step in counseling involves getting your story told and uncovering your narrative. As a therapist I will act as your guide on this journey. I use Cognitive Behavioral and Solution Focused therapies to help you understand ways in which you are “stuck” and to learn how to draw on innate character strenths and change unhelpful beliefs.

About the Therapist

John-Mark Meulman
Licensed Professional Counselor, MA, LPC, LCDC

Hello, I’m the owner of Temet Nosce Counseling. I have a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling and am licensed in the state of Texas as an LPC and LCDC. I am also trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing). More importantly than all of these though is I have over 20 years of personal recovery. Counseling is a second career for me after service in the US Navy and a successful business career. I believe my life experiences and ability to empathize due to having done my own recovery work differentiates me from many other therapists. ~ John-Mark
